Gus Nathan
Gus Nathan is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and the Combustion Institute, a recipient of Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award from the Australian Research Council, and an ATSE Sutherland medalist. He initiated and now serves as the Research Director of the $215 million Australian Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre. He also led programs on solar thermal power for alumina calcination and on hydrogen production technologies. Overall, he has led the development of six technology platforms, three of which are in ongoing commercial use while three are currently being upscaled to decarbonize heavy industry. He has published over 300 papers in international journals, 250 in peer reviewed conferences, 50 commissioned reports, and 13 patents. Professor Nathan is the founding chair of the High Temperature Minerals Processing Forum and a co-founder of the Hydrogen Production Technologies Forum. He is also a co-founder of the International Sooting Flame Workshop for the Measurement and Computation of Reacting Flows with Carbon Nanoparticles which is aligned with his own specialty in optical diagnostic methods for hydrogen production and heavy industrial processes.
